Secondary lesions, on the other hand, develop as a result of a primary lesion or other skin condition and include ulcers, scars, and crusts.

Dermatologists use a variety of tools and techniques to evaluate skin lesions, such as visual inspection, magnification, dermoscopy, and biopsy. They may also use various imaging tests such as ultrasound or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to examine skin lesions that are deeper in the skin. Once a diagnosis is made, dermatologists may use treatments such as medications, surgical excision, or other therapies to manage the lesion and improve the skin's appearance and health.

Skin lesions may be removed for aesthetic purposes or due to discomfort caused by their size or location. When skin lesions become too large or rub against clothing or adjacent skin, they can cause friction, which may prompt the need for removal.
